Nickname: Jimmy, Burmo, Burmanator

Study / Employment: B Business Admin Macquarie University, work at YA and coach

Career Goals: Maybe athlete management, or events management/marketing

Personal Motto: In Meliora Contende (the name of my boat) “to strive for better things”

Started Sailing: moved to Australia aged 3 and we fell in the love with the harbour and immersed ourselves in it - literally!

Main Goal: Gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games

Amusing Sporting episode: Recently in 35knot westerly I gybed and fell out of the boat, falling on the centreboard. It was funny at the time, until the bruise (black and the size of a soccer ball) came out!!

First Represented Australia: 2004 Laser Radial Worlds in Brisbane, it was windy and I got demolished!

Most influenced in sailing by: my dad has backed me 100% for my whole sailing career and is always there to give me and advice and keep me in line!

Three Best Highlights:

1. Winning a world champ “heat” in 2005 (age 16) in gold fleet radial worlds Brazil

2. 45th, 2nd Australian at 2008 laser world championships

3. Bronze medal at 2008 youth European champs, France

The toughest thing about competitive sailing is: getting back up after a bad day or regatta and holding your head high then moving on with class

My training & preparation includes: 4-5 sessions on water and 3 to 4 strength sessions, lots of kilometres on the road bike every week! + psych sessions

Other interesting facts: my best performances have always come after shaving my head just days before an event!

-         I love electronic music and DJ at nightclubs around Sydney when time permits… I love to perform and be silly in front of my friends

-         I can speak French
